Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the Student Services Office?

The Student Services Office is dedicated to helping students grow and develop intellectually, physically, culturally and socially by constructing the campus environment in ways that will give each student the opportunity and potential for each personal growth.

What can the Student Services Office help me with?

We can help you with housing, career counseling, job placement, personal counseling, academic counseling, and health insurance. We also organize a variety of student activities that we would love for you to participate in!

Can you help me with finding a job or internship?

Yes, we have a Career Platform that allows you to search for jobs and internship opportunities, upload resumes for employers to see, and get access to articles, podcasts, and videos designed to help you build your career. We also assist you with preparing your resume and cover letters.

Do I need health insurance?

Lincoln University requires all international students to have health insurance coverage at the time of registration. We can help you with finding the right health plan and provider for you. If you are a domestic student, there is no requirement for you to have health insurance, although we will happily help you find one if needed.

What housing options do you have?

Currently, the University provides affordable shared dormitory style housing in the Summer House complex in the city of Alameda. This is a safe community located South of Downtown Oakland. The rent is around $645 per person monthly. The monthly rent includes utilities, high-speed Internet, and renter’s insurance. The apartment complex offers controlled access, a pool, fitness center, laundry facilities, and is located near a bus stop within a short commuting distance to Lincoln University.

If I am not doing well in my classes, how can you help me?

We provide free academic counseling, tutoring, program planning, as well as advice students on the courses to select.

Do you provide personal counseling?

Absolutely! If you feel stressed or have a need to talk to someone, we are here to listen to you and help you. We provide confidential and personal help and, if needed, will connect you to professional resources.

If I have an idea to start a club or organise an event what should I do?

We love to help our students strive and get creative! If you have an idea to organise a class, club or event, please bring it to us. We will help you bring it to life!

Do you have student government and how can I get involved?

Yes, we do. The Lincoln University Student Association (LUSA) purpose is to initiate students activities and to help promote the student’s welfare on the campus.
The Student Association is run by officers elected every Fall Semester. You can get involved by participating in elections or by running for a LUSA office.

Can I get a part-time job in the Student Services Department?

Yes, we are always looking for new eager and hardworking students to join our team. We can’t guarantee a job upon request, but we would like to encourage you to apply by providing us with your resume and cover letter. If we have a position that we think is a good fit, we will contact you.
